Dance Cricket

Can I come and watch for an evening to see what it's all about? Of course you can, anytime.

What should I wear (is there a dress code)? There is no dress code, just wear whatever you are comfortable in and can easily move around in. Just bear in mind it can get quite warm, especially in the summer, even with the chillers/fans on and fresh deodorant is a must!

What shoes should I wear? Not anything too grippy, such as trainers as you will need to turn/spin. High heels are not recommended (i.e. something flat or at least limit your heel size to no more than about 1" whilst you are learning).

How long does it take to learn? Everybody is different when it comes to learning. Some people have a natural flair and progress on quit quickly, where others may take much longer. We do guarantee though, that you will be dancing by the end of your first class. However, the ability to free style will take a little longer as you will after all have to develop your own repertoire from what we teach you. However, there is nothing surer than the fact that you will achieve your goal at some point in time.

Do I need to bring a partner? Quite simply NO. We continually rotate the class, so will always have someone to dance with.

Is it safe to come alone? Of course it is and you will be made more than welcome.

I work shifts or can't get to class every week? No problem at all. The classes are structured with this in mind. It's a bit like the municipal golf course, you just pay and play!

Am I okay to dance as I have a disability/ailment? That really depends what it is? If you're not sure please contact us or ask in class. Please do tell us though as we can usually work around it, or for the more advance classes advise which moves might not be suitable (i.e. if you have a bad back and we are doing a particular dip, we might advise you to sit that one out or we can offer alternative less stressful ways of achieving the move).

Am I too old? You're never too old and we've taught people into their 80s. The main thing is that as we get older we tend to slow down and take the dancing on a more sedate level and in class we recognize that and everybody is allowed to progress at their own pace.

Am I too young? We really cater for adults (18+), although on occasion we have allowed the odd teenager to join us with parental supervision. Please check with us first though.

Will I lose any weight? Not really unless you're dancing vigorously several nights a week on a regular basis. However, dancing is very good cardiovascular exercise, which is good for keeping you supple and the heart stimulated.

Is it dangerous? Believe it or not dancing is a full contact sport and the odd bruise from a misplaced elbow or similar can on occasion be expected (more often from people daydreaming); but our emphasis in class is on safety and we maintain a very good safety record and the music we use is graded to suit the competency level of the class.

Can I stay with my own partner and not rotate? We would rather you didn't as we like everyone to mix in and get to know each other. This is also one of the reasons that we (the teachers) continually join in during the class. The only exception to this would be for a particular medical reason.
